What You Really Should Know About Breast Cancer

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer over her lifetime and just about everyone knows someone who has dealt with it. But, since many of us grew up in environments where cancer was too scary to talk about; we may not know very much about what breast cancer actually is and how it should concern us.

Woman’s Club of Albany member Martha McCormick is Director of Education at “To Life!” a locally based, not-for-profit organization that provides support services to breast cancer patients and survivors as well as Community Education programs throughout the region.

Martha will present risk factors for breast cancer (some we can control and some we can’t), genetic factors in breast cancer risk, current screening and diagnostic tools, surgical and reconstruction options, and what individual women (and men) should be aware of for their own health maintenance.
