Tour the Thomas Cole House
Wednesday, Aug. 17 --10 a.m.
218 Spring St., Catskill 12414
As a follow-up to our Hudson River School session at the AIHA, we will visit the home and studio of Thomas Cole (1801-1848), an English American painter and founder of the renowned Hudson River School. This romantic style, which flourished in the mid-19th century, glorified the American wilderness and launched painters such as Fredric Church and Asher B. Durand. Cole maintained a studio in Catskill, where he painted a significant portion of his work .
We will carpool from the WCA at 10 a.m. to this lovely site with Cole’s studio and home and take a walk to his burial site. Those interested can find lunch or a snack nearby after.
Ticket cost for visiting the Cole house is $16.00 and can be paid at the site.
Please register on the WCA website and let us know if you are willing to drive! All welcome!
Email Paula Hennessy if you are willing to drive.
